Pre-operative Guidelines

Before Traveling

Proper preparation before your journey ensures a safe surgical process and a comfortable recovery period. Once your treatment plan is finalized, our team will guide you through every stage of the process. Below are general recommendations to help you prepare for your visit to Istanbul.

Your estimated length of stay depends on the procedures you will undergo. Your Patient Consultant will prepare a personalized schedule that includes the operation and follow-up examinations. Additionally, we organize your hotel accommodation and airport transfers so that you can focus solely on your flight.

Medical History

Please provide complete and accurate information about your past surgeries, allergies (medication or food), any supplements you currently take, or existing medical conditions. We may ask you to have certain tests done in your home country for evaluation and request that you share the results with us before your arrival. Necessary pre-operative blood tests and an anesthesia assessment will be performed.

Smoking, Alcohol, and Substance Use

It is highly recommended to stop smoking at least 4 weeks before the surgery, as it delays tissue healing, impairs circulation, and increases the risk of bleeding. Furthermore, alcohol and similar substances should be avoided, as they can interact with anesthesia and the medications used.

Pre-operative Guidelines

Herbal Supplements and Medications

Herbal teas and supplements that may increase the risk of bleeding must be discontinued prior to surgery. These include, but are not limited to, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, garlic extract, St. John's wort, turmeric, and omega-3 products. The use of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) or birth control pills may be temporarily suspended depending on individual factors. Do not forget to report all prescription and over-the-counter medications you are taking so that Dr. Mert Canlı can provide you with specific instructions.

Documents and Preparation

Please check the validity of your passport, visa (if required), and flight tickets. We would be happy to assist you should you have any questions. It is recommended that you choose loose and comfortable clothing that you can easily put on and take off after the surgery. Please regularly double-check all details prior to your arrival.

Companion

It is recommended to have a family member or a friend accompany you. Once you confirm your flight times, we will finalize the rest of the schedule together.
